At the very beginning when the team was formed, a confrontation between soldiers from Hawaii and soldiers from mainland was seriously bad. Soldiers from Hawaii called soldiers from mainland as "Kotonk(nuts head)", and they often had some conflict.
To solve this problem, the commanders let the soldiers from Hawaii to have a look around the internment camps in mainland. Then they'd known how hard environment they're living and the problem was resolved.
The motto of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team was "Go for Broke!!"

postwar
About the military result that 442th Regimental Combat Team made, the President Harry S. Truman admired them as word "You fought not only the enemy, you fought prejudice-and you won."
However, the discrimination again Japanese American hadn't really gotten changed even though 442th regimental Combat Team made great result. Those soldiers were despised even after they got back to their hometown, and spent their rest of life with being not able to have any job, houses, and properties.
